Signal Integrity History
In 1999 design engineer Chris Halford started designing products for 3Dlabs (an ALS client, now part of Creative Technology). These cards were extremely challenging. In order to compete in the 3D graphics market every last Hertz of memory speed had to be squeezed out of 3Dlabs' designs. John Sutton designed the physical layout of these high-end cards and met many challenges along the way. Meanwhile, Chris was carrying out signal integrity analysis of every aspect of the design back at 3Dlabs and uncovered many SI issues that had to be resolved through modifications to the layout.

The finished article was released to manufacture and subsequently hit the market at revision "A". That is not hype... that's designing with the right tools and the right design-flow. Following the success shared with 3Dlabs (see article by Cadence on ALS&3Dlabs) a decision was made by both ALS and Chris to join forces. The end result was that Chris joined ALS as staff in 2004 to concentrate on the signal integrity performance of ALS customer's designs.

Three years on and we remain the only PCB design bureau to offer signal integrity analysis as part of our in-house design flow.
